Magickal Names
By Deanna Joseph
It has long been a practice among many cultures to take a new name when we enter
a new phase in life.  Just as in our culture, a woman takes a new last name when
she becomes married.

Our names make us feel good.... or bad....

Walking up to someone and introducing yourself as Britani almost immediately
requires the flash a bright smile.

As an exercise, right now, say out loud "my name is Britani."    Now, say out loud
"my name is Hortense."

Did you feel a difference?   I'll bet you did HA HA.

Names carry a tremendous amount of power.   In fact, in tribal cultures it was not
uncommon to change the name of a child who was frequently sick just to throw off
the invading spirits.

A name change can give us a significant boost as we start a new phase in our
spiritual journey.   A name change can be very appropriate as we enter cronehood.
There are many phases of our lives where a name change can not only boost our
vibration, but help us on our spiritual journey.

The most commonly known name change is the Magickal Name.   This is the name
that newcomers take as they enter their new spiritual path.  This new name gives
them strength, lifts their vibration and gives them confidence.   This name may
change as one progresses on their spiritual path.    A person may start out as Little
Bird, only to grow to Little Bird Who Sings, or Singing Bird.

A woman may also desire to change her name as she reaches her croning years (56
years and over).    This new name represents her wisdom at this particular stage in
life.

Magickal names can be received in any number of ways.  A teacher may gift an
apprentice with a new name.   You may dream of your name, or receive it in a
meditation.    Or you can choose your own name simply because it resonates so
well with you.

There is also what is known as the Soul Name.  This name may be unlike anything
you have ever heard.   It may not even be in a language you recognize.   This name
is generally received in a mediation with the higher self.

These names can be saved for special ceremonies, or actually taken as new names
and shared with everyone.

Two of the ladies at my church changed their names upon reaching cronehood and
these new names are what everyone now knows them by.

However you decide to choose a magickal name, if you should choose to do so that
is, it should be a name that lifts your spirit simply by saying it out loud.
